1% FOR THE PLANET

1% for the Planet is a global initiative that was founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard (Patagonia) and Craig Mathews (Blue Ribbon Files) to encourage businesses and individuals to support environmental non-profit organisations. To date the initiative has directed over US$280m to environmental non-profits worldwide.

OUR INVOLVEMENT

We’ve committed to donate 1% of every sale to environmental organisations doing important work to reverse the impacts of climate change. We think it’s important to have a sales-based commitment that our partners can depend on year in, year out, regardless of whether we make a profit that year.

We’re partnered with GreenFleet, a leading Australian not-for-profit environmental organisation that specialises in re-forestation projects in Australia and New Zealand. Since 1997 GreenFleet has planted 9.6 million trees. Sadly, Australia is the only country in the developed world to appear on a recent WWF report that identifies the 24 worst deforestation fronts globally.

Carbon emissions released by land clearing across Australia are equivalent to ~33% of the total emissions released by all the coal-fired power stations in the country.

OUR FUNDING

Located in Central Victoria (Dja Dja Wurrung country) this project forms part of the Wychitella bio link. GreenFleet is working with the Traditional Owners, the Dja Dja Wurrung people to revegetate the land with native trees to create a vital vegetation link across the country. The project will restore resilient ecosystems and create habitat for the local wildlife species, including Lace Monitors, Quolls, Shy Heathwrens, Inland Thornbills, and the vulnerable Mallee Fowl.
